CERTH will contribute to the project through research and development by offering its technological knowledge in the following topics, which are totally aligned with its extended expertise in 3D capturing technologies, tele-immersion and AR/VR knowhow:
- It will offer its 3D capturing platform that comes with fully automatic spatial calibration and temporal synchronization capabilities, utilizing RGB-D sensors.
- Offline 3D Performance Production technology.

The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) was founded in 1998 as a nonprofit organization under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Greek Ministry of Development, with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 10/03/2000, it is a founding member of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) also supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT). In 2008, CERTH was among the first Greek research organizations to undersign and accept the principles of the Charter and Code for researchers while at the same time CERTH representatives were members of the Greek delegation at the Steering Group for Human Resources and Mobility (SG HRM). Its latest achievement in the field of human resources is the “HR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH” logo awarded by the EC in April 2012 as a proof that CERTH is committed to offer the best possible working conditions, regardless the socioeconomic environment, and at the same time work towards the realization of the European Research Area (Innovation Union, Commitment #4).
Alexandros Doumanoglou

Alexandros Doumanoglou received his diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in 2009. His thesis was about the study and construction (in hardware and software) of a passive acoustic radar. In the past, he has been involved in in-depth study of several fields of computer science, with software security, cryptography, algorithms and theory of computation, 3D graphics and artificial intelligence in computer games being the most notable. He is fond of applied informatics and engineering. He has been working in the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) as a research assistant since April 2012. His main research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, 3D reconstruction, 3D graphics, mesh compression, signal processing and mathematical optimization.
Dorothea Tsatsou
Research Associate
Dorothea Tsatsou is a research associate at the Information Technologies Institute at CERTH (CERTH-ITI) since 2007, where she has been involved, on research and management, in multiple European Research Projects. Her main research interests include knowledge acquisition and representation, semantic knowledge/ontology engineering, personalization and recommedation and semantic reasoning. Her involvement with those research areas has led to the co-authoring of several scientific papers for international conferences.
Dimitrios Zarpalas
Senior Researcher
Dimitrios Zarpalas is a senior researcher (grade C) at the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). He holds the diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineer from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, A.U.Th, an MSc in computer vision from The Pennsylvania State University, and a PhD in medical informatics (School of Medicine, A.U.Th). He joined ITI in 2008, as an Associate Researcher. His main research interest are on 3D/4D computer vision and machine learning, such as tele-immersion applications: 4D reconstruction of moving humans, their hologram compression and transmission in real-time; 3D motion capturing, analysis and evaluation; 3D object recognition and 3D shape descriptor extraction; 3D medical image processing, shape analysis of anatomical structures; while in the past has also worked in indexing, search and retrieval and classification of 3D objects, proteins and 3D model watermarking. He has (co-)authored more than 75 papers in peer reviewed international journals, conference proceedings, and books (including one IEEE Distinguished paper and one IEEE conference best paper award).
Nikolaos Zioulis
Electrical and Computer Engineer
Nikolaos Zioulis is an Electrical and Computer Engineer working in the Information Technologies Institute
(ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) since October 2013. He obtained his university degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012. He is interested in 3D processing and 3D graphics and in particular, performance oriented real-time state of the art computer vision. He has solid experience in software engineering and design, constantly striving to combine state of the art advances in both computer vision and software design principles to develop modern, flexible and robust systems. His working experience has delved him into fields such as motion capturing, motion evaluation, 3D reconstruction, multi modal capturing and acquisition, spatial and temporal registration from heterogeneous sensors, algorithmic design, quality analysis and the challenges of developing a tele-immersion platform.
Antonis Karakottas
Researcher
Antonis Karakottas obtained his Engineering Diploma from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2015. He has a professional sound engineering background and works as a research associate at ITI since July 2017. His research interests include 3D-Computer Vision, Machine/Deep Learning and 3D Rendering.
Gkitsas Vasileios
Researcher
Gkitsas Vasileios obtained his university degree from the Electrical & Computer Engineering department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed his internship and since June 2018 he has been working as a research assistant in the information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). His main research interests are in the fields of machine learning and computer vision.
Vladimiros Sterzentsenko

Vladimiros Sterzentsenko received his diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) on November 2017.
Since then, his reasearch interests are focused to 3D reconstruction and human performance capture.
