The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. is an autonomous organization with a decentralized organizational structure, which currently maintains 67 research institutes and is the leading organization of institutes of applied research and development in Europe. One of the institutes is the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS), which researches and develops mobile communication systems in wireless and wired networks by engineering the elements that enable the complete seamless integration of technology with end devices and the deployment of open flexible communication services and applications. The FOKUS Competence Center Future Applications and Media (FAME) researches and develops in the fields of Rich Media and Convergence in NGN and non-NGN IPTV environments, Human-Centric Applications for multimodal Interaction and multi-device experience, Intelligence Functions as Recommendation Systems and Community Services as well as Service Integration and Collaboration for mobile middleware solutions and mashup services. The knowledge about those environments, preferences, and situation is taken into account to offer a suitable added-value to the user in simplifying and improving the interaction with computer systems. The main research focus is on the design and implementation of open service infrastructures.
Christian Fuhrhop
Scientist and project manager R & D at the Business Unit FAME
Christian Fuhrhop received his diploma in computer science from the Technical University Berlin in 1987. From 1988 to 1992 he worked as a scientist at Fraunhofer, an activity to which he returned, after working in a start-up company for three years, in 1996.
At Fraunhofer he has participated in several EU-founded projects, such as IMMP, NexTV, ICE-CREAM, mCDN, Content4All, ethnoArc, SAMBA, webinos, GlobalITV, UCN and Producer. He participated in TV Anytime standardization and has been active in industry projects related to TV based applications, from MHP and Ginga to HbbTV implementations. He has coordinated MPAT project and is currently leading the personalization WP in the Hyper360 project.
Louay Bassbouss
Scientist and project manager R & D at the Business Unit FAME
Louay Bassbouss studied Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin (TUB). He received his diploma in october 2008 with the completion of his thesis about Automatic Service Composition in user-centric mobile networks. Since that time, he started working as research engineer at the group of Open Communication Systems (OKS) at the Technical University of Berlin and the Business Unit Future Applications and Media (FAME) of the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communications Systems in Berlin. His main research activities focuses on service composition, collaboration and interaction within the area of service oriented architectures as well as Web 2.0. Louay Bassbouss has been involved in multiple national (DOCAMPUS, Government Mashups) and international projects (BIONETS, uMash, Padgets, Open Cities, COSMOS) within the area of service oriented architectures, Web Mashups, mobile computing, and technologies for future Web applications.
Mubashir Iqbal
Research Assistant at the Business Unit FAME
Mubashir Iqbal studies Computer Science with specialization in Distributed Systems and Networks at Technical University of Berlin. Currently, he is writing his thesis under topic ‘’Scalable Architecture for Content Streaming on the Web using Multicast QUIC Protocol’’. From April 2017, he is working as Research Assistant in the Business Unit Future Applications and Media (FAME) of the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communications Systems Berlin.
He has participated in the development of European Union Horizon 2020 projects such as PRODUCER and HYPER360. His areas of research include evolving Web and Media technologies, Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems architectures and Web of Things.
